About Me

My name is Kiira. I once found myself wanting to be the world’s best skater.  Such things happen without being able to say which day or year it was. It was somewhere between the skating school’s spring event and Lyon’s European Championships. In the spring event I was a butterfly. In Lyon I was 6th.

At the days of the butterfly skating was still child’s play with my friend Elli. It was aping my talented sister Petra, who injured at the times I started to take part in the training camps. And when I with an ever-growing guts started to repeat triple jumps in the halls without sunlight nor flashlights.

My sister is still my best support and example. By falling a million times you can either get permanently injured or become a butterfly again. Be like Michelle Kwan who so many times took flight from my video recorder. Deserve the lightness of the world’s best skater.

Devotion is my fortune. When you learn to live in the ongoing microsecond and find the purity of 100 %, you want to go just anywhere to do that every day, again and again. And when you succeed in something new or something really difficult, nothing beats the adrenaline rush you get.

I know what I want and I’ve decided to get it. Later on I probably want and do something else, but right now I skate like the ice was melting under my feet. And I strongly believe it’s gonna be one beautiful trip.

Thanks for following my journey. I promise to send photos and greetings to the blog and gallery sections as well as to my Facebook group.

Career

2005-2006

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS, LYON / 6th
I was just 11th at the short program, but with a gorgeous free program I got up to be the best Finn and had a ticket to the Olympics! I was absolutely euphoric after the games!

OLYMPIC GAMES, TORINO / 16th

Before the Olympics I had a real bad flu and I was worried how I’m gonna make in the games. Luckily I got well just before and it was ok.

FINNISH CHAMPIONSHIPS / 1st
The whole season had gone being sick. I could practice just couple of weeks before the games and the attendance was risky, but I wanted to earn a place to the EC in Helsinki. And the games went in a euphoria - ”I’M BACK!” As a huge surprise to myself and obviously everyone - I won!

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS, HELSINKI / 5th

Right at the beginning of my free program I dramatically fell against the fence. After the greatest shock I managed to go on and did a decent performance - with a great help from a hooraying home crowd.

2009-2010

FINLANDIA TROPHY, HELSINKI / 3rd

GP CUP OF CHINA, BEIJING / 2nd

My first GP medal!

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP, TALLINN / 4th
I had a bad flu during the games, but I skated really well and missed the bronze with miserable 0,86 points, arrrrrrgh! ;)

OLYMPIC GAMES, VANCOUVER / 11th
I got a terrible pound in my bum when I fell badly in short program, but even with my bottom slightly cramping I did the best free program ever!

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, TORINO / 20th
My weakest performance in big games. I guess I was already quite exhausted after the long and stressful Olympic season.
